Marianne Tavares RSCJ MSc MIFPA CAHP

Marianne Tavares was a Registered Nurse in the U.K. for over 30 years prior to emigrating to Canada in 2009.   From 1999-2009 she worked at St. Gemma’s Hospice, Leeds leading the complementary therapy service.  She has a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counselling, qualifications in massage, aromatherapy, reiki and hypnotherapy, and training in supervision and advanced communication skills. 

Marianne Tavares was also involved nationally in complementary therapies in palliative care in the U.K.   From 2004-2007 she was Chair of the National Association of Complementary Therapists in Hospice and Palliative Care.  She worked for the former Prince of Wales’s Foundation for Integrated Health and the National Council for Palliative Care to produce The National Guidelines for the Use of Complementary Therapies in Supportive and Palliative Care (2003), then collaborated with Help the Hospices to produce the Guide for Writing Policies, Procedures and Protocols for Complementary Therapies in Supportive and Palliative Care (2004, 2005, 2011 in press).  She has lectured widely and speaks regularly at conferences and other events.

Marianne Tavares currently leads the complementary therapy program in the palliative care unit at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.  She worked with Hospice Palliative Care Ontario to produce Standards for Complementary Therapy Programs in Hospices.
